Donald Grijalva Baker is a trombonist, composer, and improviser based in the Bay Area and Santa Cruz Mountains. Originally cutting his teeth as a youth with the Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band, he now recently graduated from San Jose State University, earning his Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies. His playing is informed by the work of J.J. Johnson, Curtis Fuller, Grachan Moncur III, and the rich history and lineage of Black American Music. He will lead the night with standards, underrepresented jazz classics, while accompanied by the remarkable Robert Jackson on piano.
